Antique Japanese ivory red-crowned cranes brooch. The brooch measures 1 3/4 wide by 1 3/8 “. The smooth polished genuine ivory cabochon  is Meticulously hand etched and inked with a pair of Red-crowned cranes . The Red-crowned cranes is often referred to as the Manchurian or Japanese cranes. These cranes are among the rarest cranes in the world .  The cranes are known as a symbol of luck and longevity and fidelity . The brooch is marked silver likely sterling and gold washed (vermeil ) . The piece is in excellent condition . We date the brooch circa 1900.
