This is an unusual portrait on porcelain. The portrait is finely painted and almost haunting. The portrait is of Elizabeth Russel Bleecker wife of Edward. Surely, this was from a family with wealth. She was born June 29, 1819, died 1892. This is a recent find from an Ohio estate but originally from Albany New York. Shame they did not keep her in the family. Obviously painted in her latter years. Elizabeth must have seen a lot of hardship during her years as she blossomed during the civil war. Imagine what occurred during her lifetime the end of slavery, electricity, the telephone, air flight and automobiles. The porcelain is well placed in a bronze ormolu frame. Under the back brass flap is the inscribed date. The piece is large for a miniature measuring 6 1/2" tall by 5" wide. Quite a handsome piece even if a bit haunting.
