French 18th Century Candy Box

Regular price $165.00

Up for offer we have a wonderful rare early 18th century French candy box. Just imagine the time effort that was put into decorating this box for a presentation of chocolates. Makes you wonder if the chocolates were better then. The box measures 4 1/2" wide by 2 1/2" tall and is 3" deep. The all side glass panels are all reverse glass painted. The top is hand painted with a courting scene and the sides with a pleasant green and white stripe. The box is further embellished with a gold leaf embossed paper rickrack trim and hand painted marbleized paper boarder. The interior of the lid there is an antique mirror and the interior is painted in a coral finish. Considering the age (over 200 years old) the box is in good solid condition with no repairs to note. There is some loss to to the embossed paper boarder and a crack in one of the glass panels. I have added loads of pictures for you to inspect. The mansard shape is quite pleasing. This was a special gift to delight even after the candy was gone.
