Antique French enamel cabochon garnet brooch circa 1860. The brooch is quite unusual with white hard fired enamel petals. There are a few slight chips to the enamel commensurate. The genuine cabobchon garnet often referred to as a carbuncle garnet is brilliant red with good fire possibly foiled back. The stone is bezel set in flower form. The stone measures 22 milimeters long by 15 mm wide with a projection of 10 mm. The brooch measures 2" long by 1 1/2" with a projection of 3/4". The brooch is nicely executed in 10 and 15K yellow gold. The brooch weighs 8.1 dwt = to 12.6 grams gold. The brooch has undergone a few repairs where the pin back meets overall a good job. There are a few slight dents and dings commenserate with age. Quite and attractive piece and good and early circa 1860.
