Frequently Asked Questions
Cydney’s Antiques | Buying & Selling Antiques, Vintage Items & Collectibles
Whether you’re looking to sell a single antique, an entire collection, or items from an estate, Cydney’s Antiques is interested in discovering unique pieces with history and character. Below are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.
Selling Your Items
Do you buy antiques directly from individuals?
Yes! Cydney’s Antiques purchases antiques, vintage items, collectibles, furniture, artwork, and other unique pieces directly from individuals. We offer outright purchases, meaning we buy items directly from you rather than selling them on your behalf.
Do you offer consignment?
No. We exclusively purchase items outright. Once we agree on a purchase price and complete the transaction, ownership transfers to Cydney’s Antiques. We do not offer consignment or commission-based selling.
What types of items do you buy?
We are interested in a wide variety of antiques, vintage merchandise, and collectibles, including:
- Jewelry and accessories
- Furniture
- Artwork, paintings, and prints
- Decorative objects and home décor
- Antique glassware, pottery, and ceramics
- Collectibles and memorabilia
- Lighting and lamps
- Books and historical items
- Unique, unusual, and one-of-a-kind pieces
Our interests may change based on inventory and market demand. If you have something unique, we encourage you to reach out.
Do you buy individual items or entire collections?
Both! We consider individual pieces, small collections, and larger groups of items. We also welcome inquiries about entire estates or household collections.
Do you buy items that are not antiques?
Yes, we may consider vintage, retro, and other interesting secondhand items, even if they are not technically antiques. Age is only one factor in determining our interest in an item.
Do you buy items from estates?
Yes. We welcome inquiries about estate collections, inherited belongings, and household contents. Whether you have a few special pieces or a large collection, you can submit information for us to review.
Do you buy damaged or imperfect antiques?
Possibly. We understand that age, use, and restoration can affect an item’s condition. Some pieces with wear, damage, or previous repairs may still be of interest, depending on their rarity, historical significance, materials, and potential restoration.
Submitting Items for Purchase
How do I find out if you’re interested in my items?
You can contact us through our website’s seller submission form or reach out directly by email or phone. Providing photographs, descriptions, approximate ages, condition details, and any known history will help us evaluate your items.
What information should I provide when submitting an item?
To help us review your submission, please include:
- Your name and contact information
- Clear photographs of each item
- A brief description of the item
- Approximate age, if known
- Condition, including any damage or repairs
- Any known history or provenance
- Your asking price, if you have one
- Your general location
The more information you provide, the better we can understand what you have.
Can I send photographs before bringing items to the store?
Absolutely! We encourage you to submit photographs and descriptions before making a trip to the store. This allows us to review your items and determine whether they may be a good fit for our inventory.
How many photographs should I submit?
We recommend several clear photographs showing the entire item, important details, markings, signatures, labels, and any areas of wear or damage. For furniture and larger pieces, photographs from multiple angles are especially helpful.
How long does it take to receive a response?
Response times may vary depending on the number of submissions and the complexity of the items. We will make reasonable efforts to review inquiries and respond as soon as possible.
Does submitting an item guarantee an offer?
No. Submitting photographs or information does not guarantee that we will be interested in purchasing an item or that we will make an offer. Each submission is reviewed individually.
Pricing & Payment
How do you determine what an item is worth?
We consider several factors when evaluating items, including:
- Age and historical significance
- Authenticity and provenance
- Condition and completeness
- Rarity and desirability
- Current resale market demand
- Restoration, handling, and resale considerations
Antique values can vary considerably, and an item’s original purchase price or sentimental value may differ from its current resale value.
Do you provide free appraisals?
We review items submitted for potential purchase to determine whether they fit our inventory and what purchase price we may be willing to offer. This is not the same as a formal appraisal for insurance, estate, tax, or legal purposes.
Can I tell you how much I want for my item?
Yes! You are welcome to provide an asking price when submitting your items. This helps us understand your expectations, although we cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet that price.
How do you make an offer?
If we are interested in purchasing your item, we will communicate our proposed purchase price and any relevant transaction details. You are under no obligation to accept our offer.
When do I get paid?
Payment arrangements will be discussed and agreed upon before the purchase is finalized. Once we agree on the terms and complete the transaction, payment will be made using the agreed-upon method.
Can I negotiate your offer?
We are happy to discuss our offers and answer questions about our evaluation. Any final purchase price must be mutually agreed upon before the transaction is completed.
Bringing Items to Cydney’s Antiques
Can I bring items directly to your store?
We encourage you to contact us or submit photographs before bringing items to the store. This helps us determine whether we are interested and whether we can accommodate the items. However, if in-person is your preference, you're welcome to come in during normal business hours.
Do you pick up large items or furniture?
Pickup availability for large furniture, collections, or estate purchases will depend on the size, location, logistics, and details of the potential purchase. Please contact us to discuss possible arrangements.
Do I need an appointment to sell items?
You may or may not contact us before visiting with items you would like to sell. We can let you know whether an appointment or other arrangements are necessary.
Do you travel to homes or estates?
Depending on the size, nature, and location of a collection, we may consider reviewing items outside the store. Please contact us with details to discuss availability.
Authenticity & Ownership
Do you buy reproductions or imitation antiques?
We primarily seek authentic antiques, vintage items, and unique collectibles. Reproductions and decorative items may be considered depending on their quality, style, desirability, and potential resale value.
Do I need proof of ownership?
We may request information or documentation to establish that you have the legal right to sell the items. Sellers must have the legal authority to transfer ownership of anything they offer for sale.
What happens after you purchase my item?
Once the purchase is finalized and payment is made according to the agreed terms, ownership transfers to Cydney’s Antiques. We may then clean, restore, display, market, or resell the item as appropriate.
Can I get my item back after selling it?
An outright purchase is a transfer of ownership. Once the transaction is completed, the item belongs to Cydney’s Antiques, and we cannot guarantee that it will be available for repurchase or return.
