Antique mother of pearl inlay panel. The lacquerware panel is handpainted and inlaid with genuine pearl details. The panel illustrates a temple garden scene. The piece framed measures 16 3/4" wide by 19 1/2" tall and has a projection of 2". The panel measures 9" x 11 3/4" and has been more recently mounted in a gold gilt wooden frame secured with mother of pearl buttoms at the corners. The framing alone was over $350 dollars. The panel has suffered some paint loss through the years, noteably the figures near the steps, the palm tree top left, and the drape lower right. The panel has been sealed since and is intact with no further loss expected. The crazing of the panel is commencesurate with age. The panel dates 1850-90 in age and is a legal antique. Quite unusual as well for a piece of this size, normally you see small cases or boxes but rare a panel of this size and beauty.
