Early Victorian portrait brooch, circa 1860-70. The helmeted Viking or King is handpainted on porcelain bezel set with a closed back. The frame is old gold plate over brass with a foliate scroll and measures 2 3/8" long by 2 1/4" wide. The back of the brooch is slightly lifted but original and in wearable condition. The brooch also has a loop to be worn as a pendant. There are a few gold leaf flecks on the portrait seem to be in the glaze. Quite a handsome piece!
